Your first creative kit
Your first creative kit does not need to be large. Choose one direction and a few compatible materials. Your first project will help you understand what works for you and what to add later.
A simple start: pencils and a sketchbook
If you have not chosen a technique, dry drawing can be a practical starting point. Look for suitable paper or a sketchbook and pencils. At Artista, examples include the Mont Marte A5 110 gsm sketchbook and the 18-colour Ultra-Soft pencil set. These are selection examples, not a single bundled product.
If you want to paint
For acrylic painting, choose acrylic paint, a suitable brush and a compatible surface. Having a sketchbook does not mean its paper supports every wet technique; check its intended use separately. Do not mix different paint types simply because their colours look similar.
Keep the first project small
Try one object, a leaf or a composition of simple shapes. Set aside short, regular practice sessions and first explore how the material behaves. A small test page of colours and marks is a useful place to begin.
Check before ordering
Compare dimensions, the number of items in a set and usage instructions. Take stock of what you already own to avoid unnecessary duplicates. Add further supplies when a new project calls for them.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a large set to start?
No. A small, focused selection is a useful starting point for trying one technique.
Can any sketchbook be used for watercolour?
No. Check the product description to confirm that the paper is suitable for wet techniques.
